Top 10 MMA Featherweights (12/30/15)

1) Conor McGregor (1)

Conor McGregor will be trying to make history at UFC 197 by challenging Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC Lightweight Championship. The only other fighter to attempt becoming a two division champion is BJ Penn.

2) Jose Aldo (2)

With a recent loss, Jose Aldo is in a tough position considering his conqueror and rival Conor McGregor maybe a two division champion. This makes a possible move up in weight for Aldo a difficult decision unless McGregor losses.

3) Frankie Edgar (3)

Frankie Edgar‘s recent knockout of Chad Mendes all but officially earned him a title shot against Conor McGregor. He will have to wait though until the second quarter of 2016 though as McGregor moves to lightweight.

4) Chad Mendes (4)

Following his The Ultimate Fighter: Team McGregor vs. Team Faber Finale loss to Frankie Edgar, Chad Mendes has hit a glass ceiling at featherweight. He’s lost to all three fighters ranked above him in the division.

5) Ricardo Lamas (5)

Ricardo Lamas’ The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 2 Finale win against Diego Sanchez ended his year on a plus. However, of where Lamas goes from here though enough wins could earn a shot against Conor McGregor.

6) Max Holloway (6)

2015 was a good year for Max Holloway who won all four fights bringing his current win streak to eight. One could make the case that he deserves a title shot within another win or two as his recent loss was to Conor McGregor.

7) Cub Swanson (7)

Cub Swanson has been out since April of last year with a broken jaw and right hand with no return date set so far. Swanson himself is in a bind as he’s lost to several of the fighters above him and may or may not be able to advance.

8) Charles Oliveira (8)

While Charles Oliveira spoiled Myles Jury‘s featherweight debut, he missed weight for a third time in the UFC.
