The MMA Freak rankings to be determined by an open ballot on the mmaforum.com. Previous ranks in parenthesis:
Top 10 MMA Featherweights (4/28/16)
1) Conor McGregor (1)
Conor McGregor still has nothing scheduled but the rumor mill is stating that he will still face Nate Diaz. This would probably take place later in the summer because of schedules with all of the other champions and events.
2) Jose Aldo (2)
For the time being with Conor McGregor preoccupied, Jose Aldo will fight Frankie Edgar at UFC 200. These men will be a part of a historic card as for the first time in recent history they will be one of three title fights.
3) Frankie Edgar (3)
Frankie Edgar will be fighting Jose Aldo for the Interim UFC Featherweight Champion at UFC 200 on July 9th. This will be his second featherweight shot and his second match against Aldo, giving him a chance to avenge him.
4) Chad Mendes (4)
With the title picture set for the time being, Chad Mendes has nothing scheduled and nothing set in terms of a title.
5) Max Holloway (6)
Max Holloway will be fighting Ricardo Lamas at UFC 199 tomorrow at the Forum in Inglewood, California. One could argue that should he beat Lamas he should be next in line after the winner of Aldo vs. Edgar for the title.
6) Ricardo Lamas (5)
In his first fight of the year, Ricardo Lamas will be fighting Max Holloway at UFC 199 tomorrow at the Forum.
7) Cub Swanson (7)
Cub Swanson has nothing scheduled but is coming off of a win against Hacran Dias at UFC on Fox: Teixeira vs. Evans on April 16th. However, this can only improve his position in the title picture though things are pretty set.
8) Charles Oliveira (8)
Though he is coming off a win, Charles Oliveira maybe moving up in weight due to his three failed weigh-ins.
9) Daniel Straus (9)
Daniel Straus hasn’t fought since last year at Bellator 145 and has yet to have a title defense scheduled. It’s hard to know who will probably be the next challenger as Bellator has been concentrating on other weight classes.
10) Patricio Freire (10)
There is nothing scheduled for former Bellator Featherweight Champion Patricio Freire but he does have a win.
Jeremy Stephens recently got one of the arguably high profile wins against Renan Barao last Saturday in May. However, with several other contenders ahead of him the likelihood that this will propel him into the title is low.
