Top 10 MMA Featherweights (1/14/16)

1) Conor McGregor (1)

Conor McGregor will be moving back down to featherweight after his loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 196. However, he is still hoping that a title defense will earn him a title shot at lightweight, but his loss to a top lightweight questions it.

2) Jose Aldo (2)

No word as to when Jose Aldo will fight again but at the present he’s campaigning for a rematch with Conor McGregor. However, due to the manner in which he fought and recent demand that might not be the case.

3) Frankie Edgar (3)

Frankie Edgar is one of several contenders being considered for the next title shot against Conor McGregor. This would make sense as he’s the only top contender that McGregor hasn’t faced at this point.

4) Chad Mendes (4)

For the time being Chad Mendes has had his title hopes set back due to a knockout loss to Frankie Edgar. However, the recent defeat of Conor McGregor may open up for an eventual rematch down the road.

5) Ricardo Lamas (5)

Ricardo Lamas last fought in November when he defeated Diego Sanchez to a decision win for a rebound. However, he still has a long way to go if he wants to possibly earn a title shot against Conor McGregor.

6) Max Holloway (6)

One of several fighters to call out Conor McGregor, Max Holloway currently has nothing scheduled for now. However, considering the opponents he’s faced a match with a top five opponent can definitely be expected.

7) Cub Swanson (7)

Cub Swanson will be fighting Hacran Dias at UFC on Fox on April 16th after taking a year off from a broken jaw. He will be fighting almost a year after his last fight and it will be interesting to see if ring rust has set in any way.

8) Charles Oliveira (8)

There have been several hiccups for Charles Oliveira with missing weight and a loss to Max Holloway in August.

9) Daniel Straus (9)

Daniel Straus hasn’t fought since November at Bellator 145 against Patricio Freire with no defense scheduled. However, there are a few contenders that he can face in Bellator but some opponents do not make sense due to past.

10) Patricio Freire (10)

It’s hard to know what will happen to Patricio Freire considering his trilogy with Daniel Straus and a final loss.
