Please note that the rankings are voted on by a panel of MMA Freak writers and the previous rankings (3/31/14) are listed in parenthesis:

1. Demetrious Johnson (1)

Demetrious Johnson is now officially set to face Ali Bagautinov at UFC 174 on June 14, 2014. This will be first pay per view fight as the defending UFC Flyweight Champion as his last pay per view was when he originally won the title back in September 2012 at UFC 152.

2. John Dodson (2)

A win over John Moraga at UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Khabilov on June 7, 2014 may propel John Dodson back to a rematch with UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. Considering he’s the number one contender that would make logical sense.

3. Joseph Benavidez (3)

Joseph Benavidez just earned a Performance of the Night award at UFC 172 with a submission against Tim Elliot giving him a rebound win. However, he will probably need a few more wins to get back into title contention considering he’s lost to Johnson twice, lately by knockout.

4. Ian McCall (4)

After injuries have set him back since August, Ian McCall is now set to finally face Brad Pickett at UFC Fight Night 46 on July 19, 2014. However, considering that it will have been almost a year since he last fought, ring rust maybe a factor.

5. John Moraga (5)

John Moraga has a chance to avenge his earlier career loss against John Dodson as on June 7 at UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Khabilov.

6. Ali Bagautinov (6)

Despite a mediocre performance against John Lineker, Ali Bagautinov is getting a title shot against Demetrious Johnson at UFC 174.

7. Jussier da Silva (7)

Jussier da Silva’s last win against Scott Jorgensen is still in question due to the accidental head butt. However a win is a win regardless.

8. John Lineker (8)

One can assume that John Lineker will have to make weight next time around or else risk getting cut from the UFC like Anthony Johnson.

9. Tim Elliot (tied) (N/A)

Tim Elliot with his loss to Joseph Benavidez at UFC 172 finds himself on a two fight loosing streak. This is a situation where men have been released from the UFC for less. If he looses one more time he may find himself looking for another promotional home.

9. Brad Pickett (tied) (9)

After an easy tuneup match for his UFC flyweight debut, Brad Pickett now gets to face the man he was originally supposed to in Ian McCall.

The following fighters received votes for the flyweight rankings and as such are listed as contenders: Zach Makovsky, Darrell Montague.
