Due to suspension, Ali Bagautinov is ineligible for the rankings. Also previous rankings (1/24/15) in parenthesis:
1) Demetrious Johnson (1)
Demetrious Johnson is set to defend his title this Saturday, April 25th at UFC 186 against Kyoji Horiguchi. Johnson’s dominance in the division shows how great of a fighter he really is in the UFC.
2) Joseph Benavidez (2)
After a successful fight in November against Dustin Ortiz, Joseph Benavidez will fight John Moraga at UFC 187. The Memorial Day Weekend fight card is one that is set to be one of the most stacked for mid 2015.
3) John Dodson (3)
John Dodson will be fighting Zach Makovsky at UFC 187 on May 23rd in his first match in eleven months. Dodson could very well earn himself a rematch against Demetrious Johnson with a win against the contender.
4) Ian McCall (4)
Despite his loss to John Lineker at UFC 183 in January, Lineker’s move up in weight nullifies the defeat. However, McCall will have to build his way back up to a title shot considering it was a one sided fight against Lineker.
5) John Lineker (5)
John Lineker will most likely be moving up in weight because of his repeated failures to make the flyweight limit. This was unfortunate considering Lineker may have been a legitimate contender in the division had he stayed.
6) Jussier da Silva (6)
Assuming Jussier da Silva defeats Wilson Reis at UFC Fight Night 67 he will be in line for a title shot next. This is the only match that makes logical sense considering his ranking and the lack of other viable fresh contenders.
7) John Moraga (7)
John Moraga will be facing Joseph Benavidez on May 23rd Memorial Day weekend in at UFC 187. This could determine the landscape of the contenders in the flyweight division as well as possibly the next challenger.
8) Chris Cariaso (9)
Following his defeat at the hands at Demetrious Johnson, Chris Cariaso lost to Henry Cejudo at UFC 185. This shows where both men rank in the flyweight division as Cariaso was always an underdog in both matches.
9) Zach Makovsky (8)
Zach Makovsky will be facing John Dodson at UFC 187 on May 23rd. This could be a defining fight for him as that win would raise his profile and may give him the next title shot if all circumstances fall into place the right time.
10) Kyoji Horiguchi (10)
Winning his four UFC fights, Kyoji Horiguchi will now challenge Demetrious Johnson at UFC 186. While Joe Rogan has said that Horiguchi has legitimate knockout power, so does former challenger John Dodson.
