Please note that the rankings are voted on by a panel of MMA Freak writers and the previous rankings (4/30/14) are listed in parenthesis:

1. Demetrious Johnson (1)

Having successfully defended his title against Ali Bagautinov, the next logical step for Demetrious Johnson would be a rematch with Jon Dodson. Dodson has done nothing but win since his decision win against Johnson at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Dodson in January 2013.

2. John Dodson (tied) (2)

John Dodson defeated John Moraga in their rematch from Nemesis Fighting, Dodson should be getting a rematch with Demetrious Johnson next. Two impressive wins against Moraga and Darrell Montague have made a case for a rematch with the championship.

2. Joseph Benavidez (tied) (3)

It’s hard to tell what will be next for Joseph Benavidez as a title shot probably won’t happen this year and he’s lost to Demetrious Johnson twice. Not to mention Benavidez’s second loss to Johnson was a knockout whereas the first fight was a decision loss.

4. Ian McCall (4)

Ian McCall will finally be meeting Brad Pickett in a reschedule of their February 13th scrap, set to take place at UFC Fight Night 46.

5. Ali Bagautinov (6)

While he put up a good challenge against UFC Champion Demetrious Johnson, Ali Bagautinov came up short against Johnson. Of note though is the fact that Bagautinov’s match which “earned” him the title shot really wasn’t that impressive against John Lineker.

6. John Moraga (5)

John Moraga will probably be out for a while due to a broken nose sustained in his match against Jon Dodson at UFC Fight Night 42.

7. Jussier da Silva (7)

Also known as Formiga, Jussier da Silva will be facing former Bellator Bantamweight Champion Zach Makovsky at UFC 176 on August 2.

8. John Lineker (8)

John Lineker‘s weight has been an issue since the day he came into the UFC and the question is which weight his next fight will be at.

9. Zach Makovsky (N/A)

Former Bellator Bantamweight Champion has reinvented himself at flyweight and will next be facing Jussier da Silva at UFC 176, August 2. This will be Makovsky’s greatest challenge in the weight class as he is currently undefeated in his four fights in the flyweight division.

10. Brad Pickett (tied 9)

Brad Pickett had a good flyweight debut and will now be facing originally scheduled opponent Ian McCall at UFC Fight Night 46.

The following fighter received votes for the flyweight rankings and as a result is considered a contender in the division: Chris Cariaso.
