Note due to suspension, Ali Bagautinov is ineligible for the rankings. Also note the previous rankings (10/13/14) are in parenthesis:
1) Demetrious Johnson (1)
With the UFC schedule the way it is, one can expect Demetrious Johnson to next defend his title in the ballpark of April of this next year.
2) Joseph Benavidez (2)
Joseph Benavidez did indeed face the up and coming brawler Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 57 and was able to grind out a decision.
3) John Dodson (3)
The big question of how long John Dodson will be out of action with an injury is going to affect how Dodson will be ranked until his return.
4) Ian McCall (4)
Ian McCall‘s scary blood poisoning has subsided and he will now face original opponent John Lineker at UFC 183 on January 31st next year. While the fighters ahead of him make a bigger case for a title shot there’s still a chance that one or two wins could earn a title shot.
5) John Lineker (6)
It was unfortunate that John Lineker made weight only for now rescheduled opponent Ian McCall to get blood poisoning and call it off. One can only hope that making weight this time helps him learn how to do it correctly and make it when the face off in January at UFC 183.
6) Jussier da Silva (5)
Jussier da Silva is the only major flyweight who hasn’t faced Demetrious Johnson but needs to defeat John Moraga at UFC on Fox 13. Should he win the case for a title shot is definitely strong considering he is the only top flyweight who hasn’t fought Johnson in the past.
7) John Moraga (7)
John Moraga could face Demetrious Johnson next if he spoils Jussier da Silva‘s momentum be defeating him at UFC on Fox 13.
8) Zach Makovsky (8)
Looking to get a rebound, Zach Makovsky is looking to defeat the up and coming Tim Elliot at UFC Fight Night 60 on February 15th. A few wins against strong opponents could earn him a title shot similar to Chris Cariaso against Demetrious Johnson factors permitting.
9) Chris Cariaso (10)
Chris Cariaso still hasn’t fought since his loss to Demetrious Johnson but expect him to come back hungry for a rebound victory.
10) Brad Pickett (9)
Now on a two fight loosing streak, if Brad Pickett still wants to capitalize on being the only flyweight with a win over the UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson he needs to start winning. His recent loss to Chico Camus doesn’t help his cause by any means.
