Top 10 Flyweights (10/1/15)
1) Demetrious Johnson (1)
Demetrious Johnson once again defended his title against John Dodson at UFC 191 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The next likely opponent for Johnson would be the winner of the match between Jussier da Silva and Henry Cejudo.
2) John Dodson (2)
While he once again got a title shot, John Dodson came up short a second time against the flyweight champion. This second failure may lead to a move up in weight where he could face one time opponent TJ Dillashaw.
3) Joseph Benavidez (3)
Joseph Benavidez got the opportunity at UFC 192 to welcome Ali Bagautinov back after his suspension ended. However, due to his facing Demetrious Johnson twice before, a title shot for Benavidez is unlikely anytime soon.
4) Jussier da Silva (4)
In what could finally be his chance at a title shot, Jussier da Silva will be facing Henry Cejudo on November 21st at The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 2 Finale at the Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico; the first UFC visit.
5) Ian McCall (5)
Ian McCall doesn’t have a fight lined up and his loss to John Lineker casts doubt on his viability. Though that fight also comes with doubts of it’s own because of the fact that Lineker missed weight and is now at bantamweight.
6) Kyoji Horiguchi (6)
After his loss to Demetrious Johnson, Kyoji Horiguchi was able to rebound against Chico Camus at UFC Fight Night: Barnett vs. Nelson on September 27th in what could be considered his home town territory.
7) John Moraga (7)
John Moraga hasn’t fought since his May 23rd loss to Joseph Benavidez and has nothing lined up for now. The next likely opponent which may lead to a title shot would be Zach Makovsky who also has nothing lined up.
8) Henry Cejudo (8)
Following a successful UFC flyweight debut against Chris Cariaso, Henry Cejudo also defeated Chico Camus. He could possible secure a title shot with a win over Jussier da Silva at the TUF Latin America 2 Finale.
9) Zach Makovsky (10)
Zach Makovsky hasn’t fought since his UFC 187 loss to John Dodson and currently has nothing lined up. Make no mistake though that Makovsky definitely has a future in the sport and with a few more matches could be champ.
10) Ali Bagautinov (N/A)
Coming out of his suspension full force, Ali Bagautinov faced off against Joseph Benavidez but lost at UFC 192.
The flyweight contenders list: Chris Cariaso, Dustin Ortiz, Justin Scoggins, Ray Borg, Sergio Pettis
