Top 10 MMA Heavyweights (10/28/16)
1) Stipe Miocic (1)
Stipe Miocic is taking time off after his victory over Alistair Overeem at UFC 203 while waiting for a future fight. A possible future opponent would be that of Junior dos Santos who owns a win over Miocic and isn’t scheduled.
2) Alistair Overeem (2)
Following his loss to Stipe Miocic, Alistair Overeem will probably be scheduled a rebound match relatively soon. It can be assumed that he might fight against either Cain Velasquez, Fabricio Werdum or Junior dos Santos.
3) Junior dos Santos (3)
Junior dos Santos hasn’t fought since UFC Fight Night 86 but a rematch with Fabricio Werdum is possible. Another possible match maybe a title shot against Stipe Miocic as he owns a win over the current champion.
4) Cain Velasquez (4)
Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez hasn’t fought since UFC 200 against Travis Browne. Velasquez may next get a title shot against Stipe Miocic or a rematch against Fabricio Werdum.
5) Fabricio Werdum (5)
Fabricio Werdum last fought in September at UFC 203 and won against Travis Browne via a decision victory. A possible rematch against Junior dos Santos or Cain Velasquez are both possibilities depending on title shots.
6) Vitaly Minakov (6)
Undefeated heavyweight Vitaly Minakov last fought against Peter Graham in June at Eurasian Fight Night 50. It is unknown if Minakov will fight again in the west which is unfortunate due to his undefeated streak and potential.
7) Mark Hunt (8)
Mark Hunt is in a contract dispute with the UFC and is on the brink of retirement after his Brock Lesnar fight. He has threatened various actions including suing the UFC and wants Lenar’s pay from their UFC 200 match.
8) Ben Rothwell (N/A)
Due to a knee injury, Ben Rothwell has been out since his April loss to Junior dos Santos with no return set. Any fighter in the division would make a good match against a returning Rothwell as most are in similar situations.
9) Josh Barnett (N/A)
Josh Barnett last fought in September at UFC Fight Night: Arlovski vs. Barnett winning against Andrei Arlovski. This is a rebound win for Barnett who had previously lost to Ben Rothwell at UFC on Fox 18 in January.
10) Andrei Arlovski (9)
Unfortunately with his loss to Josh Barnett, Andrei Arlovski is now on a three fight losing streak in the UFC.
Fedor Emelianenko, Stefan Struve, Blagoi Ivanov, Alexander Volkov, Travis Browne
