Please note due to inactivity Stefan Struve is ineligible for the rankings. Also note the previous rankings (6/11/14) are listed in parenthesis:
1) Cain Velasquez (1)
Cain Velasquez is currently training for his title defense while waiting for The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America to finish broadcasting. Of note is the fact that before his UFC 180 defense, Velasquez will become ineligible for the rankings on October 19th due to inactivity.
2) Fabricio Werdum (2)
Like Cain Velasquez, Fabricio Werdum is training for his match with the champion at UFC 180 in Mexico City on November 15th.
3) Junior dos Santos (3)
Junior dos Santos will be fighting Stipe Miocic in a reschedule of their bout at UFC on Fox 13 in Phoenix, Arizona on December 13th. Like the above mentioned Cain Velasquez, dos Santos will become ineligible for the rankings on October 19th when he last fought.
4) Travis Browne (4)
After a layoff, Travis Browne will be facing Brendan Schaub at UFC 181 on December 6th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Browne has rebounded from losses well before but Schaub is a very athletic heavyweight just like the Hapa himself.
5) Stipe Miocic (6)
Stipe Miocic will be getting his long overdue chance at facing Junior dos Santos at UFC on Fox 13 this coming December 13th.
6) Josh Barnett (9)
Despite his long layoff, Josh Barnett currently has nothing scheduled calling into question why he has been off for such a long time.
7) Antonio Silva (5)
Antonio Silva got a rude welcome from suspension with a loss to Andrei Arlovski when they rematched from their Strikeforce match. It also seems to call into question whether “Bigfoot” is still relevant considering his downward path following his fight with Cain Velasquez.
8) Mark Hunt (10)
Without a doubt, Mark Hunt pulled an upset against Roy Nelson by knocking him out and propelled him back into possible contention. It was even more impressive considering that Hunt had to loose almost 20 pounds the day of the weigh ins.
9) Roy Nelson (8)
Roy Nelson has lost three of his last four fights and considering his rocky relationship with Dana White, his days might be numbered.
10) Alistair Overeem (7)
After his loss to Ben Rothwell, Alistair Overeem is now expected to face Stefan Struve at UFC on Fox 13 on December 13th. It has been noted that should Overeem loose, it will probably be hist final match in the UFC as he has failed to deliver on all of his hype.
The following fighters received votes and are considered contenders: Vitaly Minakov, Andrei Arlovski and Jared Rosholt.
