Due to inactivity and moving down in weight respectively, Rashad Evans and Dan Henderson are both ineligible for the rankings:
1) Jon Jones (1)
Jon Jones now has a defined opponent in Anthony Johnson who will challenge him at UFC 187 on Memorial Day Weekend May 23rd. Because of Johnson’s athleticism and power at light heavyweight, Jones maybe in for his greatest challenge in the man known as Rumble.
2) Anthony Johnson (5)
His dismantling of Alexander Gustafsson is what earned Anthony Johnson his title shot against Jon Jones at UFC 187 on May 23rd.
3) Daniel Cormier (2)
Daniel Cormier is getting a rebound match against fellow wrestler Ryan Bader on June 6th at UFC Fight Night 68 in New Orleans. Depending on how this match goes as well as Jon Jones defense against Anthony Johnson he may get another title shot should he win.
4) Alexander Gustafsson (4)
It was surprising to see Alexander Gustafsson dismantled by Anthony Johnson so badly on his home turf in the manner that he was. Gustofsson however has a way of rebounding from losses as they don’t happen often in his career and he will rebound from this one as well.
5) Phil Davis (6)
Phil Davis lost in a close split decision against Ryan Bader at UFC on Fox: Gustafsson vs. Johnson on January 24th in Stockholm.
6) Ryan Bader (9)
On a four fight winning streak, Ryan Bader has earned a fight against former title contender Daniel Cormier at UFC Fight Night 68. Depending on how this fight goes, Bader may get a rematch against Jon Jones or fight Anthony Johnson for the championship.
7) Glover Teixeira (7)
Glover Teixeira was supposed to face Rashad Evans at UFC Fight Night 61 on February 22nd but got injured during camp and pulled out.
8) Emanuel Newton (10)
Following a successful 2014, Emanuel Newton will be defending his title Friday against Liam McGeary on Bellator: British Invasion. Because of Newton’s ability to find ways to win, it maybe possible that McGeary could be finished easily despite his obvious reach advantage.
9) Ovince St. Preux (N/A)
Ovince St. Preux will be facing Patrick Cummins at UFC on Fox: Machida vs. Rockhold on April 18th in Newark, New Jersey. With his upset win over Mauricio Rua in November of last year, momentum is on St. Preux’s side.
10) Mauricio Rua (N/A)
In order to bring new coaches on The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, Mauricio Rua will coach season 4 opposite Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. He was originally supposed to coach opposite Anderson Silva but Silva’s drug test forced him off the show and replaced.
