There have been several set backs over the past three months but the MMA Freak Awards are finally being released.
In the past the awards have been listed in a top 10 format however, this year and possibly this year only, the awards will simply have a winner of the category with some possible honorable mentions.
Eight of the nine categories from last year will be return with one new category making it’s debut this year.
The awards are voted on by the staff of MMA Freak and is a subjective compilation of the opinion of the staff.
Here are the awards:
Upset of 2017
Rose Nanajunas’ TKO of Joanna Jedrzejczyk – UFC 217
MMA Freak Journalist of the Year (new category)
Tom Heffernan has been a member of the MMA Freak family since September 2013 and has contributed significantly to the site with his witty articles and down to earth approach. Heff as he is known by staff has functioned as the UK Correspondent for MMA Freak as his residence in Scotland has allowed for scoops that just were not obtainable by most of the US based Freak staff. A few months ago Heff announced his departure from the MMA Freak team and he will truly be missed and we all wish him well in all of his future ambitions.

A walk away knockout is always a good ending and this was certainly the case.
