Episodes 1: The Tournament Begins
The narrator and Dana White explain that for this season of The Ultimate Fighter it was decided to find a new contender for Demetrious Johnson‘s UFC Flyweight Championship. The reason for this is because Johnson has faced all of the top fighters already in the division.
White goes onto explain that the fighters chosen are flyweight champions from different promotions around the world. A few fighters have already fought in the UFC and even against Johnson and the season’s coaches.
Coaching the various fighters are flyweight contenders Joseph Benavidez and Henry Cejudo.
After the fighters arrive in the TUF Training Center and are introduced to the coaches the teams are picked.
Due to the unique nature of the season, the fighters are seeded and picks are decided based on the seedings just like in season 20.
The teams are decided as follows:
Tim Elliott, Brandon Moreno, Damacio Page, Eric Shelton, Ronaldo Cândido, Matt Rizzo, Hiromasa Ogikubo and Terrence Mitchell
Charlie Arnaiz, Alexandre Pantoja, Adam Antolin, Yoni Sherbatov, Jamie Alvarez, Matt Schnell, Nkazimulo Zulu and Kai Kara-France
Then the first two matches take place:
Team Cejudo’s Alexandre Pantoja submits Brandon Moreno in round two.
Team Cejudo’s Kai Kara-France knocks out Terrance Mitchell in round one.
Episode 2: Language of Combat
Hiromasa “Sakuraba” Ogikubo, who is the Shooto champion is having issues communicating with his fellow teammates and living fighters due to his lack of English skills. However, there is one thing that he doesn’t have a problem with and that is the language of combat.
Then there are issues with South Africa’s Nkazimulo Zulu from Extreme Fighting Championship who seems to have cultural differences with the fighters in the house.
Before the weigh-ins, coaches Benavidez and Cejudo have an argument mainly over Cejudo’s past conduct, and Benavidez’s perceived “fake” behavior.
The match results in Ogikubo submitting Zulu in the second round after controlling the first.
Episode 3: Look Through Your Soul
White talks about how Damacio Page fought previously in the WEC and UFC but was cut after three losses. He then fought in Legacy FC where he was supposed to fight Cejudo but Cejudo signed with the UFC and they didn’t fight.
Adam Antolin then talks about how he trains with American Kickboxing Academy and how he is the Tachi Palace Fights Flyweight Champion.
After some more coaches bickering, the fight takes place and Antolin upsets Page.
The next fight announced is Team Cejudo’s Yoni Sherbatov versus Team Benavidez’s Eric Shelton.
