~ (1)Jose Aldo (22-1) ~
This man has been popping up on just about everyone’s P4P list. Aldo is currently the undisputed UFC featherweight champion. Boasting a fifteen fight win streak and recently beating Frankie Edgar, who was dominant in the weight class above him, left many to wonder who would be able to challenge him next. This was answered shortly when Anthony Pettis decided to drop a weight class and challenge Aldo.
~ (2)Pat Curran (18-4) ~
Curran is the Bellator featherweight champion and is currently riding a five fight winning streak. Curran is set to face Shahbulat Shamhalaev in the upcoming Bellator 95 this April 5th. Look for this dominating featherweight to make his way to the octagon sometime in his professional career.
~ (3)Ricardo Lamas (13-2) ~
After a dominating victory over Erik Koch in January at UFC on FOX 6, many people believed he was the clear number one contender and would be the next person inline to face the current UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo. Due to Anthony Pettis coming down a weight class, Lamas was matched up with another entertaining featherweight in Chan Sung Jung at UFC 162.
~ (4)Chad Mendes (13-1) ~
Mendes seems to be experiencing a string of bad luck. Although he is staying ready and healthy, the people matched up against him do not seem to share the same luck. He was set to face Manny Gamburyan at UFC 157, but injuries forced Gamburyan out of the competition. Clay Guida got the call to face Mendes at UFC on FOX 7, but was forced to pull out to an injury. For now, we all will anxiously await Mendes’s return.
~ (5)Chan Sung Jung (13-3) ~
It has been a while since we’ve seen Sung Jung in the cage. The last time he fought in the octagon was in his victory over Dustin Poirier (via d’arce choke). Waiting for his return is Ricardo Lamas and the two are set to square off at UFC 162.
~ (6)Cub Swanson (19-5) ~
Tearing up the octagon with a four fight win streak in the UFC featherweight division, this action packed fighter is looking to earn himself a shot at the title in the near future. Keep your eye on this guy during the year of 2013. He just may be a win or two away from the belt.
~ (7)Clay Guida (30-13) ~
After deciding to drop to the featherweight division in the UFC, he got his first fight against Hatsu Hioki. This fight ended in a very close split decision that some people believe could have gone either way. Guida was scheduled to fight Chad Mendes at UFC on FOX 7 but was forced out of the match due to an injury.
~ (8)Dennis Siver (21-8) ~
In just his second outing in the featherweight division, Siver put on a dominating performance against Nam Phan at UFC on FOX 5. Siver was scheduled to face Cub Swanson, but pulled out of the fight without giving any official reason.
~ (9)Hatsu Hioki (26,-6-2) ~
Hioki looked great in his first two outings in the UFC, securing two wins in a row. Since then, he lost a unanimous decision against who some believe is the true number one contender in Ricardo Lamas and lost a very close split decision that some people believe he won that fight. Look for Hioki to get back to his winning ways in the upcoming year.
~ (10)Nik Lentz (23-5-2, 1 NC) ~
In his second featherweight fight, he won in dominating fashion seemingly shutting down Diego Nunes, proving he is going to be a major force to be reckoned with in the UFC featherweight division.
