Please note that the rankings are voted on by a panel of writers and that the previous rankings (7/11/14) are listed in parenthesis:

1. Jose Aldo (1)

Jose Aldo‘s injury set back his title defense rematch with Chad Mendes but they will be facing off at UFC 179 on October 25th. However, this should take nothing away from Aldo’s desire to get revenge for his teammate against Team Alpha Male.

2. Chad Mendes (2)

There was a little bit of a delay along with a cancelled UFC 176, but Chad Mendes will face Jose Aldo at UFC 179 in October. There is no doubt that Mendes has certainly earned this rematch as he’s won every single match since loosing to Aldo in 2012.

3. Ricardo Lamas (3)

Ricardo Lamas currently has nothing scheduled but considering his hard match with Hacran Dias, that is understandable. Some notable fighters he may face next include Cub Swanson and Frankie Edgar are the top names that come to mind.

4. Cub Swanson (4)

If Cub Swanson‘s win against Jeremy Stephens hasn’t put him in the title hunt then it certainly has put him a win or two away.

5. Frankie Edgar (5)

Frankie Edgar last fought against BJ Penn at the end of their TUF coaches tenure. He currently has nothing scheduled.

6. Nik Lentz (7)

After a win in May at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva against Manny Gamburyan which served as a rebound win from his loss to Chad Mendes, Nik Lentz will be facing Charles Oliveira on September 5th at UFC Fight Night: Souza vs. Mousasi.

7. Dustin Poirier (6)

Dustin Poirier is set to face the Irish smack talker Conor McGregor on September 27th at UFC 178: Johnson vs. Cariaso. In all honesty, Poirier is the favorite going into this match up. However, McGregor is the more well known fighter among casual fans.

8. Pat Curran (9)

Even with the new Bellator system in order, Pat Curran will still be meeting Patricio Freire at Bellator 123 on September 5th. It should be interesting how this rematch goes as Freire is certainly hungry for the title as he’s been around the top of Bellator.

9. Jeremy Stephen (10)

Despite his loss to Cub Swanson at UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Stephens, Jeremy Stephens is still a force to be reckoned.

10. Clay Guida (8)

Clay Guida is now in a bit of a bind after loosing to Dennis Bermudez at UFC on Fox 12, making him 2-2 at featherweight.

The following fighter received rankings votes and is considered a contender in the featherweight division: Dennis Bermudez.
