Top 10 MMA Flyweights (12/11/15)

1) Demetrious Johnson (1)

There’s still no confirmation as to whom Demetrious Johnson will face next but Henry Cejudo is likely next. This may very well be the greatest challenge of Johnson’s career considering Cejudo’s Olympic Gold Medal status.

2) John Dodson (2)

John Dodson is now stuck in that he can no longer progress at flyweight and has talked about moving up in weight. This is significant considering the fact that he has a win over current bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw.

3) Joseph Benavidez (3)

The first challenge for Joseph Benavidez will be that of the up and coming Zach Makovsky at UFC 196 on February 6th. This is a crucial match as a win may very well propel either fighter into title contention once again.

4) Henry Cejudo (4)

Henry Cejudo will be the next likely title challenger for Demetrious Johnson but a date and venue is unknown. Because of his caliber of wrestling he’s going to be a great challenge to Johnson who only has a high school level.

5) Jussier da Silva (5)

There is still a possibility that even with the loss to Henry Cejudo it’s possible Jussier da Silva could earn a shot. Of course this depends on timing and the type of opponents that he is hypothetically matched up against.

6) Ian McCall (6)

Ian McCall may in fact become ineligible for the rankings as it’ll be a year since his last match after January 31st of last year. He’s had several matches fall through this past year as well as several injuries and is still coming off a loss.

7) Kyoji Horiguchi (7)

A rebound is what Kyoji Horiguchi needed after his loss to Demetrious Johnson and he got it in Japan. Like many of the fighters on this list he may very well propel himself back into title contention with the right win.

8) John Moraga (8)

John Moraga hasn’t fought since UFC 187 when he lost to Joseph Benavidez back on May 23rd of last year.

9) Zach Makovsky (9)

In what will be the greatest challenge of his career, Zach Makovsky will face Joseph Benavidez in Las Vegas, Nevada. As one of the only major contenders who hasn’t faced the flyweight champion, this is a great opportunity.

10) Ali Bagautinov (10)

Ali Bagautinov doesn’t have any matches scheduled and needs one considering his loss to Joseph Benavidez.
