Note due to suspension Ali Bagautinov is ineligible for the rankings. Also note the previous rankings (8/27/14) are in parenthesis:
1. Demetrious Johnson (1)
Demetrious Johnson is on course for his upcoming UFC 178 title defense against obvious underdog Chris Cariaso on September 27th. While Cariaso maybe a huge underdog, the Flyweight Champion isn’t in the habit of underestimating his opponents in any circumstances.
2. Joseph Benavidez (2)
After a nearly five month layoff, Joseph Benavidez will be facing up and comer Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 57 on November 22nd. Benavidez maybe a favorite but Ortiz is extremely scrappy and a win against Benavidez maybe the factor that propels Ortiz into the top 10.
3. John Dodson (3)
John Dodson currently has nothing scheduled but his win against John Moraga should have propelled him into the title shot search. Supposedly his current layoff is due to an injury of some sort and it is unknown when he will recover or who he will fight against.
4. Ian McCall (4)
With a few months off, Ian McCall will now be facing John Lineker at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Manuwa on November 8th in Brazil. McCall can expect Lineker to be at top form unless he misses weight again regardless of whether he is on the first or second overall attempt.
5. Jussier da Silva (5)
Jussier da Silva was able to convincingly defeat Zach Makovsky and with a win over TJ Dillashaw a title fight would be interesting.
6. John Lineker (6)
Despite one win as of late, John Lineker can propel himself into title contention with a win over Ian McCall and by making weight. He will have the chance to prove both on November 8th at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Manuwa and will have home field advantage.
7. John Moraga (7)
John Moraga has recently defeated Justin Scoggins by submission at UFC Fight Night: Jacare vs. Mousasi giving him a rebound win.
8. Zach Makovsky (8)
While Zach Makovsky may have lost to Jussier da Silva at UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. St. Preux, he is definitely still a contender.
9. Chris Cariaso (9)
Chris Cariaso‘s three fight winning streak is what earned him a title shot with Demetrious Johnson, but he maybe outmatched. Cariaso doesn’t have any wins over notable opponents in the weight class, and the only big win he has at bantamweight is Takeya Mizugaki.
10. Brad Pickett (10)
Though he’s only one of two men to own wins over Demetrious Johnson, Brad Pickett is currently coming off a loss to Ian McCall.
