Due to suspension, Jon Jones is currently ineligible for the rankings. The previous rankings are in parenthesis:

Top 10 Light Heavyweights (9/17/15)

1) Daniel Cormier (1)

Daniel Cormier had to fight hard to defend his title against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192 in Houston, Texas. With Jon Jones going on probation, a possible rematch may happen or a match with Ryan Bader first.

2) Anthony Johnson (2)

Following his first loss in over three years, Anthony Johnson successfully rebounded against Jimi Manuwa. Depending on who wins in coming title fights it’s possible Johnson may get another title shot.

3) Alexander Gustafsson (3)

Alexander Gustafsson gave Daniel Cormier a run for his money at UFC 192 but is now stuck. He has fought twice against champions and come up short. There’s a question of whether another opportunity will come or not.

4) Glover Teixeira (6)

After a win against rising prospect Ovince St. Preux, Glover Teixeira will next be facing Patrick Cummins. Cummins being a rising prospect, it’s interesting to see if Teixeira can stop his momentum or not.

5) Ryan Bader (4)

Ryan Bader won his fifth fight in a row against Rashad Evans at UFC 192 and is in line for a title shot. However, it’s possible that former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones may leapfrog for Daniel Cormier.

6) Phil Davis (8)

In his Bellator MMA debut, Phil Davis won the Bellator Dynamite Light Heavyweight Tournament for a title shot. With the win, Davis now gets a title shot against Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Champion Liam McGeary.

7) Ovince St. Preux (5)

Ovince St. Preux unfortunately lost to Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night: Teixeira vs. Saint Preux. However, he was awarded Fight of the Night honors and make no mistake, his momentum can easily still be projected ahead.

8) Liam McGeary (10)

It was a hard fought title defense, but Liam McGeary was able to successfully defend his title against Tito Ortiz. He will next be facing Bellator Dynamite Light Heavyweight Tournament winner Phil Davis in the future.

9) Rashad Evans (N/A)

Rashad Evans finally made his return after almost two years of being sidelined with various injuries but lost. With the light heavyweight division having evolved since his last outing, it’s hard to see where he lies in the division now.

10) Jimi Manuwa (N/A)

At his first pay-per-view outing, Jimi Manuwa lost to Anthony Johnson in a striking back and forth match up. This is only his second loss and there is now a question as to how far up the rankings he can progress.

Contenders list: Mauricio Rua, Quinton Jackson, Patrick Cummins, Muhammed Lawal, Nikita Krylov
