Please note that in a rare tie for tenth there will actually be eleven fighters in the rankings. Also previous ranks (1/26/14) are in parenthesis:

1. Anthony Pettis (1)

Filming for season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter is set to begin within the next few months Anthony Pettis will be set to start coaching. It will be interesting if he decides to try and teach any of the women under his guidance any of his flashy moves or just the basics.

2. Gilbert Melendez (2)

Like Anthony Pettis, Gilbert Melendez is set to start coaching on The Ultimate Fighter in the next few months and won’t fight until December. This will actually make both fighters ineligible for the rankings due to inactivity which is rare for the two best in a weight class.

3. Benson Henderson (3)

Some still view Benson Henderson’s win against Josh Thomson at UFC on Fox 10 as a robbery. In order to silence those critics he will be headlining UFC Fight Night 42 on June 7, 2014 when he faces off against dangerous Russian Rustam Khabilov.

4. Josh Thomson (9)

There is currently no word on when Josh Thomson will fight next and it isn’t known if it’s due to his injury or the end of his MMA career.

5. TJ Grant (4)

TJ Grant has been afflicted with concussions during training for almost a year and it may cause him to become ineligible for the rankings.

6. Donald Cerrone (10)

There’s no doubt that Donald Cerrone is re-establishing himself in the lightweight division with three post fight bonus performances in a row.

7. Nate Diaz (5)

Despite his antics in relation to his contract and twitter, it looks like Nate Diaz will be returning to the Octagon. When though is unknown.

8. Jim Miller (6)

Jim Miller’s recent technical submission of Yancy Medeiros demonstrates just how adaptable his submission game is starting to become. Those submissions are only eclipsed by other submissions on the same cards that get the Performance of the Nights honors.

9. Eddie Alvarez (7)

In order to solidify his place as one of the best lightweights to never compete in the UFC Eddie Alvarez needs to beat Michael Chandler.

10. Michael Chandler (tied) (8)

Michael Chandler will be looking to reclaim his lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez at Bellator 120, the promotion’s inaugural pay per view.

10. Khabib Nurmagomedov (tied) (N/A)

Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov is undefeated in twenty two fights with his most recent win coming off Rafael dos Anjos on UFC on Fox 11.

The following fighters received votes for the lightweight rankings and as such are listed as contenders in the division: Rafael dos Anjos.
