Note due to inactivity Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort are ineligible. Also note the previous rankings (9/16/14) are listed in parenthesis:
1) Christ Weidman (1)
Chris Weidman will be facing Vitor Belfort at UFC 184 in Los Angeles, California at the Staples Center in what’ll be a great match. While Belfort may have been out of action for over a year it’s doubtful that ring rust will be a factor for the man described as a phenom.
2) Lyoto Machida (5)
In a possible knockout of the year candidate, Lyoto Machida knocked out C.B. Dollaway with a very swift kick to the ribs that was obvious.
3) Ronald Souza (4)
Ronaldo Souza will be facing Yoel Romero at UFC 184 on February 28th in what is a crucial fight for both fighters to propel them higher. This is a unique match up as both fighters are elite level grapplers who have developed rather nasty striking games to round off their skills.
4) Luke Rockhold (6)
Final Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold had a spectacular performance against Michael Bisping back in November.
5) Tim Kennedy (7)
Tim Kennedy may have lost against Yoel Romero but he still has a lot of momentum going for him and this is just a hiccup in his career. For the present though he’ll have to sit on the sidelines and see when a match comes for him to rebound, possibly against a non-top 10 foe.
6) Yoel Romero (N/A)
A win over Tim Kennedy was Yoel Romero‘s most high profile win to date and his momentum earned a fight against Ronaldo Souza.
7) Gegard Mousasi (9)
Gegard Mousasi gets the honor of welcoming Dan Henderson back to the middleweight division at UFC on Fox 14 on January 24th. This is a chance for Mousasi to showcase his skills on basic television which is something he has never gotten to do before in his career.
8) Michael Bisping (8)
Michael Bisping‘s loss to Luke Rockhold in November has left him at a crossroads in his career as his fighting style becomes outdated.
9) Mamed Khabilov (N/A)
Probably the only elite level middleweight to never fight in the UFC, Mamed Khabilov has always fought middle range athletes in KSW.
10) C.B. Dollaway (N/A)
C.B. Dollaway took a nasty kick to the ribs from Lyoto Machida but needless to say he can rebound from this should he decide to fully.
The following fighters received votes and are considered contenders in the middleweight division: Mark Munoz and Costa Philippou.
