Please note that due to inactivity Dominick Cruz is ineligible for rankings. Also previous rankings (6/27/14) are in parenthesis:

1. Jon Jones (1)

Jon Jones now gets to fight the opponent he originally wanted to face in Daniel Cormier at UFC 178 despite their little tussle yesterday. The press conference brawl only makes the fight that much more intense and expect smack talk leading to Sep. 27th.

2. Demetrious Johnson (4)

Because of contender injuries, Demetrious Johnson will be defending his title against Chris Cariaso at UFC 177 on August 30th. It seems he will be the co-main event to T.J. Dillshaw and Renan Barao but it doesn’t take away from his skill level.

3. Cain Velasquez (2)

Cain Velasquez will be defending his title against Fabricio Werdum at UFC 180 following the conclusion of The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America. Supposedly the filming went smoothly at least from a coaching stand point because of mutual respect.

4. Jose Aldo (3)

After an injury causing a setback of his title defense, Jose Aldo will indeed face Chad Mendes at UFC 179 this coming October 25th. It was unfortunate that all of UFC 176 had to be cancelled because of Aldo’s injury, however it couldn’t be helped.

5. Chris Weidman (5)

Chris Weidman will probably be facing Vitor Belfort sometime towards the end of the year, though nothing is set in stone.

6. Ronda Rousey (7)

The rumors keep swirling as to whether Ronda Rousey will next defend her title against Gina Carano but nothing is definite.

7. Johny Hendricks (6)

Johny Hendricks like so many other members of this list has an opponent and potential date but nothing is set in stone again.

8. Anthony Pettis (8)

Filming for The Ultimate Fighter season 20 is either close to wrapping up or already has with Pettis and Melendez coaching.

9. T.J. Dillashaw (9)

T.J. Dillashaw essentially has to prove that his win against Renan Barao  wasn’t a fluke by defeating him against at UFC 177. UFC President Dana White clearly does not exercise the right judgement in common sense situations but it happens at times.

10. Renan Barao (10)

There’s a chance that Renan Barao may have had an off night and he’ll get a chance to prove it at UFC 177 against TJ Dillashaw. However, he looked like his normal self so it’s hard to tell if that was the case but August 30th will tell the truth.

The following fighter received votes and is now considered a contender for the pound for pound rankings: Junior dos Santos.
