Due to inactivity Cain Velasquez is ineligible for the rankings. Also note the previous rankings on 12/27/14 will be listed in parenthesis:
1) Jon Jones (1)
Following his Fight of the Night match against Daniel Cormier at UFC 182, it was announced that Jon Jones tested positive for cocaine. There are conflicting stories as to how long Jones was in rehab and the UFC only gave him a 25 thousand dollar fine, a slap on the wrist.
2) Jose Aldo (3)
Jose Aldo has a tentative title defense against Irishman and big time smack talker Conor McGregor targeted for May 23rd at UFC 187. Because of how much McGregor has improved, it looks like Aldo maybe in for the most challenging test of his career to begin 2015.
3) Demetrious Johnson (2)
At the present, Demetrious Johnson still has nothing scheduled and with the events set as they are he probably won’t fight until June.
4) Chris Weidman (4)
Chris Weidman will finally be meeting Vitor Belfort at UFC 184 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on February 28th. It’s doubtful that Belfort will suffer much from ring rust but his lack of TRT will be an interesting affect to say the least.
5) Anthony Pettis (6)
Looking for a somewhat quick title defense, Anthony Pettis will be defending his title against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 185 on March 14.
6) Ronda Rousey (5)
Ronda Rousey like Chris Weidman will defend her title at UFC 184 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles against Cat Zingano. Though it has been stated several times before, Zingano maybe Rousey’s greatest challenge to date considering their similar grappling and striking.
7) T.J Dillashaw (7)
Following wins for both T.J Dillashaw and Renan Barao following their first encounter, the two will face each other at UFC 186. This will prove whether Barao simply had a bad night the first time around or whether Dillashaw was simply better then the former champion.
8) Robbie Lawler (9)
Robbie Lawler has nothing scheduled for now and maybe under medical suspension for the time being. But expect him to defend in July.
9) Fabricio Werdum (8)
While Fabricio Werdum was supposed to face Cain Velasquez in March for the unified championship, that doesn’t look like the plan. Either way the Interim Champion will be ready when the time comes.
10) Renan Barao (10)
Renan Barao got his rebound win against Mitch Gagnon and because of injuries to other contenders will get his title rematch at UFC 186.
The following fighters received votes for the pound for pound rankings and are contenders: Johny Hendricks and Junior dos Santos.
