Note due to inactivity Anthony Pettis is currently ineligible for the rankings. Also note that the previous rankings (9/9/14) in parenthesis:

1) Jon Jones (1)

Jon Jones is recovering from surgery and still set to face Daniel Cormier in the annual new years show at UFC 182 on January 3rd.

2) Demetrious Johnson (3)

It was obvious for everyone who watched UFC 178 that Demetrious Johnson clearly over matched the underdog challenger Chris Cariaso. This marks three finishes in his last four fights and makes an argument that Johnson is one of the best in the MMA world.

3) Jose Aldo (2)

Jose Aldo is set to defend his title against Chad Mendes at UFC 179 on October 25th. Should he win, Dana White would like for him to face Conor McGregor as he has faced all the top contenders in the featherweight division and McGregor is on fire right now.

4) Cain Velasquez (5)

History will be made again with Cain Velasquez defending his championship at UFC 180 in Mexico City against Fabricio Werdum.

5) Chris Weidman (4)

Chris Weidman‘s hand injury will once again delay his middleweight championship defense against Vitor Belfort until spring 2015.

6) Ronda Rousey (6)

The idea of Ronda Rousey next defending her title against Gina Carano was silenced when Cat Zingano performed a come from behind victory at UFC 178. Should she be cleared in time by a doctor, Zingano will fight Rousey at UFC 182 for the annual new years fight card.

7) Johny Hendricks (7)

Johny Hendricks will be making his return in his rematch with Robbie Lawler at UFC 182 on December 6th following Chris Weidman‘s injury. This will show if indeed Hendricks torn bicep made it as difficult as it looked or if Lawler really was on his game.

8) T.J. Dillashaw (8)

Now that Dominick Cruz has returned and challenged Team Alpha Male, expect T.J. Dillashaw to answer the call opportunity permits. However, it’s possible that Dillashaw may have to sit back and watch Cruz take on Renan Barao for the right to challenge him next.

9) Renan Barao (9)

Renan Barao may find an opportunity to redeem himself if he can land a match between himself and the returned Dominick Cruz.

10) Junior dos Santos (N/A)

It will have been over a year long layoff before Junior dos Santos fights Stipe Miocic at which time dos Santos will be ineligible. However, it should make a good fight at UFC on Fox 13 just the same.

The following fighter received rankings votes and is now considered a contender for the pound for pound rankings: Daniel Cormier.
