Due to inactivity Carla Esparza, Cristiane Justino, and Jessica Penne are ineligible. Previous rankings (10/1/14) listed in parenthesis:
1) Ronda Rousey (1)
It is now confirmed that Ronda Rousey will be facing Cat Zingano at UFC 184 on February 28, 2015 in Los Angeles at the Staples Center. It maybe redundant to say that Zingano maybe Rousey’s greatest challenge to date but considering the similarities between the two not really.
2) Michelle Waterson (2)
Michelle Waterson will next be defending her title at Invicta FC 10 against Herica Tiburcio on December 5th broadcast on UFC Fight Pass. Such exposure can only increase the Karate Hottie’s profile and possibly make a case for her inclusion into the UFC in the future.
3) Barb Honchak (3)
After an eleven month layoff, Barb Honchak defended her title in fine fashion against Takayo Hashi at Invicta FC 9 in November 1. Like the above mentioned Michelle Waterson, Honchak’s exposure on UFC Fight Pass may lead to an offer to fight in the UFC eventually.
4) Cat Zingano (7)
Cat Zingano‘s triumphant return at UFC 178 resulted in her upcoming title shot next year against Ronda Rousey at UFC 184 on February 28. With both women undefeated with top grappling pedigrees and improving striking, this has the potential to be a great match in 2015.
5) Jessica Aguilar (4)
Without a doubt Jessica Aguilar has been the most active top 10 strawweight during the past year and will finish it at WSOF 15 on November 15th. As with her previous two opponents, Kalindra Faria is a far underdog in the WSOF’s thin strawweight division.
6) Sara McMann (5)
Sara McMann hasn’t had a fight since winning a close rebound fight against Lauren Murphy on August 16th at UFC Fight Night 47.
7) Marloes Coenen (N/A)
It took the revival of Bellator’s women’s division to bring Marloes Coenen back to action at Bellator 130 defeating Annalisa Bucci. After having won her debut, it can be expected that she will face fellow featherweight Julia Budd, probably for the championship.
8) Alexis Davis (6)
Alexis Davis is still inactive after he lopsided loss to Ronda Rousey. One must wonder how she can rebound from such a whopping.
9) Joanne Calderwood (8)
Regardless of whether she makes it to the finals of the tournament, we will see Joanne Calderwood in action at the TUF 20 Finale.
10) Katja Kankaanpaa (9)
Katja Kankaanpaa is probably the highest ranked strawweight besides Jessica Aguilar outside the UFC and is the Invicta FC Champion.
The following fighter received votes for the women’s pound for pound rankings and as such is considered a contender: Sarah Kaufman.
