Dynomite (insert best Jimmie Walker impersonation here)

Every once in a while an event in athletics, regardless of sport, comes along that leaves you baffled, excited, concerned and thinking to yourself, “ There is no way this is going to work, I can’t wait to see how this plays out.” Bellator 142: Dynamite 1 will be one of these events. Scott Coker’s over the top MMA and Glory kickboxing love child, will feature 20 total bouts, featuring simultaneous matches with side-by-side cage and ring action, a Bellator and Glory light-heavyweight title fight, a Glory featherweight title fight, a light-heavyweight tournament with Bellators stars of the division (Phil Davis’s Debut), and my personal favorite: Bellator Dynamite will feature Lenne Hardt (screaming Pride lady) as the ring announcer for the event. Scott Coker has cut no corners to ensure Dynamite 1 will be talked about for month to come.

Main Event

Tito Ortiz vs. Liam McGeary

Don’t get it twisted; this is Liam McGeary’s belt and Division right now. McGeary is an undefeated fighter with a deadly ground game. This is his fight to win. But love him or hate him, just admit it, deep down you kind of want to see the rebirth of Tito Ortiz reach its final form, as the 40 year old “Huntington Beach Bad Boy “is crowned as the new light-heavyweight champion of Bellator. Both fighters should look to take this fight and ground and grind this fight out to see who is the most dominant ground fighter.

4-man Bellator Tournament

Francis Carmont vs. Phiilipe Lins (Reserve Match)

Semi Finals (2 rounds)

Phil Davis vs. Emmanuel Newton

Muhammed Lawal vs. Linton Vassell

Final

TBH vs. TBH

The tournament rounds of Dynamite feature Bellator’s top four light-heavyweight fighters as they battle through the tournament for a chance to compete against the winner of the Ortiz/McGeary fight.

Phil Davis vs. Emanuel Newton

Former UFC vet Phil Davis will make his highly anticipated Bellator debut as he takes on former Bellator Champion, Emmanuel Newton. While this may seem like a tall task for the newcomer “Mr. Wonderful”, Davis is an elite wrestler and in a 2 round match he should easily take down Newton and do what he does best; out wrestle his opponent. Davis needs to be careful of the big shots Newton will throw at him and cruise his way into the tournament final.

Muhammed Lawal vs. Linton Vassell

Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal is another fighter on the card who has had quite the resurgence as of late. Lawal is riding a very nice 3-fight win streak and his cocky and brash persona is alive and in full effect as he’s readied for the tournament. Vassell is a great fighter and a with a deadly stand-up and has a real chance of taking this fight. If King Mo does not stick to a real game plan and just stands and bangs with Vassell he could end up paying the ultimate price as he wakes up on the canvas. Lawal was given a bit easier of a fight then“Mr. Wonderful”. Expect to see Lawal use his superior wrestling to find his way into the championship.

Must Watch Fight

Josh Thomson vs. Mike Bronzoulis

Josh Thomson the 36-year-old former Strikeforce champion is a guy who got caught in the tidal wave of talent in the UFC lightweight division and unfortunately drowned. Thomson ended his UFC career on an unfortunate 3 fight-losing streak. While, this may make some people turn their heads to this fight, Josh Thompson is still an elite fighter. Thompson will face off against Mike Bronzoulis the former runner up of “Fight Masters”. While Bronzoulis is a great fighter and this will most definitely be an exciting fight, Bellator likes to make there newcomers shine in their debut and this seems like a very winnable fight for “The Punk” to show off what made him a champion not so long ago. Josh Thompson might be a fighter we talk about soon as a real Bellator contender.
