New Years Eve is tomorrow and as is traditional, the MMA world should make New Years Resolutions. Here’s some:
10) Barb Honchak needs to defend her title
Barb Honchak hasn’t fought in over thirteen months and doesn’t have a return date. She doesn’t have any known injury but she needs to get back into the cage and defend her Invicta FC title if she wants into the UFC eventually.
9) Cyborg and the UFC need to get on the same page
The main reason for the UFC signing Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino was to fight Ronda Rousey. With Ronda’s loss to Holly Holm that won’t be happening and Justino will now be defending her Invicta FC Featherweight belt.
8) World Series of Fighting needs to rethink their goals
World Series of Fighting declared war on the UFC earlier this year but seriously needs to reconsider that strategy.
7) Stop the immediate title rematches
Holly Holm needs to face Ronda Rousey at UFC 200 according to Dana White and Fabricio Werdum will be facing Cain Velasquez at UFC 196. Both are immediate rematches and both were finishes. This needs to stop.
6) The UFC should start spreading money around
In a recent interview, Lorenzo Fertitta said that the UFC made around $600 million this year. With that much money there isn’t an issue with their corporate debt and fighters are in dire need of that kind of money.
5) Someone should hire Bjorn Rebney
There’s been no word as to what the Bellator MMA founder has been up to as of late but one can’t deny the fact that he started what is now the UFC’s number one competitor. Another promotion needs to pick him up in some role.
4) The Rampage situation needs to be resolved
Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson signed with the UFC and only fought once for the promotion due to an ongoing legal battle with Bellator. Jackson needs to resolve it and the UFC should consider buying out Jackson’s contract.
3) ONE Championship needs to ink a US television deal
The promotion is indeed dominating the South Eastern Asian market where they are primarily based but exposure with American MMA stars can only help them. Even if a deal were a tape delay deal it could only give them exposure.
2) Fighters need to cut weight healthier and smarter
Johny Hendricks had multiple health issues while cutting weight for a fight and a fighter for ONE Championship died, prompting new regulations for the promotion. The burden is also lade on the fighters to be responsible.
1) Dana White needs to watch what he says
He’s getting better at this but with events like the UFC lawsuit ongoing, he needs to be more careful and discerning.
